The Pre-Shot Reset

Blow-up holes triggered by tension and rushing after a bad shot.

Look, breathe, swing · the same rhythm on the 1st tee, the 18th, and after your worst shot

Set up

Build a 3-step routine: one look at the target, one breath, one external cue (the target — never a body part).

The reps

Run the routine on every shot for one full round. No exceptions, especially after your worst shot.

How you know it's working

The same routine on the 1st tee and the 18th, and after the worst shot of the day.

Why it works

Consistency under pressure is a routine, not a talent. It's what stops one bad hole from becoming three.

The evidence

Attentional-focus research is consistent: under pressure, performers who anchor on an external target hold up, while internal, mechanics-focused attention degrades skilled movement (Wulf; pressure-performance studies in golf). The routine is how you guarantee the right focus when it matters.
