The Punch-Out Rep

Fluffing the 'easy' escape shot because you've literally never practiced it.

Set up

Take a 7-iron. Ball back in the stance, hands ahead, half swing — the trees-to-fairway escape shot.

The reps

15 punch-outs to a 30-yard-wide window, varying the target each time. Low flight, running finish.

How you know it's working

13 of 15 inside the window, none higher than head height.

Why it works

The smart miss only works if you trust the escape shot. Ten minutes of reps makes the conservative choice feel like a real option instead of a defeat.

The evidence

The from-trouble shot is where a bad hole becomes a card-wrecker — the same Arccos big-number data that indicts hero recoveries rewards a reliable advance shot. Practicing it with varied targets keeps the rep schedule random, matching how the shot shows up on the course: always slightly different.
